ABEO
Founded in 1993, it is committed to fundraising and supporting the families of children with cancer and leukaemia, with a particular focus on haematological and oncological patients. The association also promotes initiatives related to prevention, hospital treatment and socialisation, and strives to offer moral, psychological and material support to the families of young patients, trying to alleviate the difficulties associated with the disease and improve the quality of life of young patients and their loved ones.
The work of ABEO is made possible by the active participation of parents, but also by the contribution of volunteers and friends and supporters, who give their time, experience and energy to make the care pathway easier for young patients and their families.
The association offers numerous support services such as ‘Ti accompagno io’, a free transport service for young patients and their families to and from the hospital and other healthcare facilities. ABEO also runs a home schooling service, which allows children to continue their education during long hospital stays, supporting them with tutors and psychologists.
In addition, thanks to the contribution of the Hellas Verona Foundation, the association has recently inaugurated ‘Casa Elena’, a residential facility comprising four apartments as part of the ‘Casa ABEO Alloggi’ project. The project, launched in 2020 and started in February 2023, immediately set itself the goal of creating these apartments for the families of transplanted children, in order to guarantee them privacy and proximity to their children in the hospital ward.
