Primavera 1 2026/27 | Verona travel to Genoa

Verona – Following their midweek Coppa Italia fixture, the Gialloblù Primavera side travel to face Genoa in Matchday 9 of the league season.

Just four days after their Coppa Italia exit, it is already time for Head Coach Massimo Pavanel's side to return to action, with a league fixture against Genoa awaiting them.

The match against Pro Vercelli ended in elimination from the Gialloblù's first Coppa Italia fixture of the season, as they were beaten on penalties following a 0-0 draw in normal time. Despite dominating in terms of play and chances created, Verona were unable to take the lead and also missed a penalty through Zanin in the 41st minute. Their opponents, who play in Primavera 2, managed to take the match to a penalty shoot-out, having rarely threatened Molica's goal. From the spot, missed penalties by Peci and Bisoffi, both saved by opposition goalkeeper Andreotti, proved costly.

In the league, Verona are coming off a 2-2 draw against AlbinoLeffe. The first goals of the season for Costa Pisani and Casagrande were not enough to secure all three points. The result against the Blucelesti leaves Pavanel's side 17th in the table, with 8 points from 2 wins, 2 draws and 3 defeats. The trip to Genoa represents an opportunity to return to winning ways, with Verona's last victory coming in a 2-0 home win against Milan.

The match against the Grifone is scheduled for Sunday 1 November at 1pm at the ‘Sciorba’ Stadium in Genoa. Last season, the Rossoblù finished the league campaign in 10th place with 50 points, two more than Verona. This season, Head Coach Domenico Criscito's side sit sixth, firmly in the play-off places, with 12 points from 3 wins, 3 draws and 2 defeats. Genoa are unbeaten in their last four matches and go into the fixture following a 2-2 draw against Roma, who will be Verona's opponents in Matchday 11. The Gialloblù therefore face an in-form side, who have also progressed in the Coppa Italia after a 3-0 win over Reggiana.

Head Coach Pavanel spoke ahead of the match: "Genoa are a team that have traditionally performed well in the Primavera, bringing through some important young players. We will continue on our path, looking to improve in attacking situations and build on the strengths we have shown out of possession. We need to improve in every area. We will be without some important players, but this will give younger players the opportunity to gain more playing time and accelerate their development."

Flavio Barbetti (Arezzo AIA Section) will referee the match, assisted by Paolo Cufari (Turin AIA Section) and Francesco D'Andria (Chiavari AIA Section).
