Serie BKT 2026/27 | From 0-1 to 2-1! Verona wins the derby in the 'Bentegodi' cauldron

Verona - Hellas Verona-Vicenza ended 2-1 on Matchday 5 of Serie BKT 2026/27.

Turning to the match action, Verona earned an immediate corner in the 4th minute. Sarr crossed to the back post toward Lella, who struck a right-footed volley that found only the outside of the netting.

Vicenza created their first dangerous chance in the 14th minute from a corner: Marchizza beat everyone to the near post and grazed the top of the crossbar from close range.

Two minutes later, De Battisti skipped past a defender and fired across goal with his left foot from the edge of the area, missing the target.

In the 22nd minute, Le Borgne laid off to Lella, who tried to curl a right-footed effort from distance; Gagno saved comfortably.

Verona continued to threaten around Gagno's box: the 30th minute brought another Le Borgne-Lella link-up, with the Frenchman breaking down the right and cutting it back for the Gialloblù midfielder's late run, though his shot was charged down. Sarr pounced on the rebound, but his effort was once again blocked by the visitors' defense.

A few minutes later Hellas threatened through Zappa, who picked out Mulattieri's run to the near post: the striker beat the Vicenza defenders to the ball, but his finish was weak and central.

In the 43rd minute, Verona kept pressing down the right wing. Lella switched play wide to Zappa, who shifted it to Suslov. The Gialloblù number 10 beat his marker and tried to deliver a cross, but the Biancorosso goalkeeper claimed it cleanly in the air.

Right on the stroke of halftime, Vicenza pushed forward into Leali's territory once more. Caferri sent in a cross from the right that was repelled by the home defense. Bellemo fired on the rebound from the edge of the box, missing the target.

Following 2 minutes of stoppage time, the first half ended 0-0.

Early in the second half, Vicenza had an immediate chance to break the deadlock. Gagno went direct with a long kick, Merkaj flicked on a header and combined with Rauti, who slipped him through on goal; Zappa's tracking back proved decisive in stopping Merkaj from beating Leali.

In the 55th minute came a huge chance for Verona. Zappa played a long ball for Livramento, Costa intervened with a defensive header straight to Sarr, who spun around in the center of the box but dragged his left-footed strike wide.

In the 58th minute, the visitors opened the scoring. Vicenza's midfield bypassed Verona's high press, with Rauti driving forward on the ball in a numerical overload. Reaching the edge of the penalty box, the away striker drilled a powerful right-footed strike to put Vicenza in front.

Verona responded immediately. In the 63rd minute, Le Borgne crossed for De Battisti, who adjusted his feet and struck a fierce left-footed volley, only for the Vicenza defense to block and clear.

In the 74th minute, Hellas found the equalizer from a corner. Sarr stepped up to the flag and picked out Mosquera's crashing volley, with the striker smashing a right-footed strike into the ground and up beneath the crossbar for 1-1. Vicenza refused to sit back and immediately threatened Leali's goal when Valoti hit a first-time volley, though the Gialloblù goalkeeper turned it away.

Right afterward, Verona took the lead through a moment of Mosquera brilliance. Zappa released Livramento, who drove at Marchizza, rounded him, and whipped a low cross into the box. Mosquera attacked the ball and sent a cheeky backheel into the far bottom corner beyond Gagno's reach. Within 5 minutes, Verona turned the derby on its head to lead 2-1 in the 77th minute.

Vicenza pushed forward in search of an equalizer, leaving gaps for Hellas counterattacks. Cerbone tore away down the left, took on Leverbe, skipped past him, and struck across goal with his left foot, scuffing the finish.

In the 85th minute, the Biancorossi earned a dangerous free kick on the right. Costa delivered into the mixer; Iannoni cleared, but Caferri seized the loose ball and found Marchizza, who brought it down in the heart of the area and blazed over.

Despite Vicenza's final efforts, Verona defended their advantage and, after 4 minutes of stoppage time, clinched the derby 2-1.

Verona's next fixture will take place on Sunday, October 11 at 7:30 PM, when the Gialloblù face Modena at the 'Braglia' Stadium on Matchday 6 of Serie BKT 2026/27.
