#VeronaDolomiti | Coach Marco Baroni's post-match comments
Folgaria – Coach Marco Baroni’s comments following Hellas Verona-Dolomiti Bellunesi, the Gialloblù’s third friendly of the #Folgaria2026 training camp.
Coach, how would you assess the training camp in Folgaria? "Yesterday I thanked the lads for the commitment, dedication and effort they have shown. I'm pleased with how the training camp has gone because everyone has fully applied themselves. We are trying to introduce a different style of football, one that is also demanding to develop. We want to play dominant football, based on ideas and on controlling the game. As I've already said, this team has to score through the way we play. I'm convinced we can bring the best out of these players because, if we want to have an important season, we need to score around 60 goals. The team is working towards that objective. Once again today we created plenty of chances. It's a pity that so many offside decisions went against us because perhaps we could have scored a few more goals. Aside from that, the signs have been very encouraging and I'm confident".
This morning, after one of Amin Sarr's excellent crosses, you said that the ball had "a soul". How is the team progressing in terms of its spirit and the building of the group? "We still have to build this group and we can't afford to get that wrong. First of all, because our real leader has to be the way we play. That's the concept we need to work on. There's no point looking for anything else: we need a clear playing identity that everyone can believe in. If someone makes mistakes, they have to understand them quickly, otherwise they'll be left out. Up to now, though, I have to say I've found a disciplined group that has worked with great commitment and dedication. From that point of view I'm very happy. We also need to show spirit out of respect for the people who have come here to support us, for those who have bought season tickets and for the enthusiasm they have shown despite last season's relegation. I'm not surprised because I know this club and its supporters, but it's still something truly special. We have to repay all of that by playing with heart, energy and total commitment".
You spoke about the need to score around 60 goals, setting a clear target for the team. What impressions have you had of Sarr, playing in a wider role but free to move inside, and of a young player like De Battisti? "You're asking the right person because, for me, age doesn't exist in football – only good players exist. And good players can be young. There are some very interesting youngsters in this squad. I don't want to mention names at the moment because it wouldn't be fair to the others, but we have to keep working and they have to show they are willing to improve. My philosophy is simple: if you perform well, you play. If you keep improving, you earn your place. That said, we also need new signings because this is a very demanding league, where every match is difficult. We'll face teams with great intensity and physicality. We also need experience because experienced players are what help young players develop. Usually, young players grow in the right environment and within a team that functions well. It's much harder for them to improve if the team isn't working or if the environment isn't positive. Together with the club and the Sporting Director, we have to build that foundation".
