Primavera 1 2024/25 | Verona take on Genoa away on Saturday

Verona - The Gialloblù, having disposed of their commitments with their respective national teams, are ready to return to the field to play the 31st matchday of the 2024/25 Primavera 1 championship.

The opponent that coach Paolo Sammarco's players face this week is coach Jacopo Sbravati's Genoa. The match will be played on Saturday, March 29 at 1 PM at the 'Sciorba Stadium' in Genoa.

Verona is coming off an important victory against Lazio 2-0. Opening the scoring was Luca Monticelli in the 42nd minute with a splendid volleyed goal off an assist from De Battisti. Vermesan's converted penalty in the 90th minute then sealed the game, giving the Gialloblù three crucial points to overtake the Biancocelesti in the standings. The formation coached by coach Sammarco is now in seventh place in the standings with 46 points, -5 from AC Milan, which occupy the last position useful for access to the playoffs. Just two lengths behind Verona are Genoa and Lazio, both on 44 points. Cagliari (41), Monza (40) and Lecce (40) remain off the pace, with the latter facing the Sardinians on Sunday.

The one against Genoa will be another important direct clash. The opponents come to the challenge after the double defeat against Atalanta (0-2) and Juventus (1-0) and the victory against Monza (3-4). Tommaso Ghirardello, striker of the Rossoblù, is momentarily third in the scorers' table of the Primavera 1 championship with 15 goals scored. The team's best assistman, on the other hand, is teammate Joi Nuredini (5) tied with midfielder Lorenzo Venturino - Richi Agbonifo's U19 national teammate - who, however, played only part of the first leg with the Primavera lineup before being permanently included in the First Team roster coached by Patrick Vieira.

These are the words of coach Paolo Sammarco on the eve of the match: “We face a very difficult away match on Saturday. Genoa is definitely a very organized team that is doing very well in this league, with very good strikers who have scored several goals, so we will have to be very careful. These days all the national players are coming back to training, so now we will start to work well on the details of the match. There is still great enthusiasm and the guys who stayed during the break worked really well. We are confident that we will go and play another level game in Genoa as well, trying to do our best, because this team is showing that it can play with anyone.”

Referee of the match will be Leonardo Di Mario (AIA Section of Ciampino), while assistants will be Francesco Tagliaferri (AIA Section of Faenza) and Rosania Alfonsorocco (AIA Section of Finale Emilia).
