Primavera Coppa Italia 2026/27 | Pro Vercelli progress on penalties
Verona – Hellas Verona were eliminated from the 2026/27 Primavera Coppa Italia after losing 4-1 on penalties to Pro Vercelli following a goalless draw in the Round of 32.
Verona began by taking control of possession, with Pro Vercelli sitting deep and waiting for the Gialloblù. The first shot of the match came from Valoti in the third minute, but his right-footed effort from outside the box lacked power.
In the eighth minute, Verona began to threaten down the left. Jatta and Moisa combined, with the latter reaching the byline and sending in a cross-shot that Andreotti turned behind for a corner, his first intervention of the match.
The Jatta-Cavazza partnership on the left continued to cause problems. In the 25th minute, Jatta reached the byline and delivered a cross, narrowly missing Gardin in the centre of the box.
Verona increased the pressure and looked to involve Gardin more frequently. In the 37th minute, Bohomo played a direct ball forward from defence to the Gialloblù No. 91, who, with his back to goal, used a body feint to shake off a defender before shooting on the turn. His effort went narrowly wide of Andreotti’s goal.
A minute later, Gardin came close to putting Hellas ahead again. Mussola played the ball into the middle from the right, and the striker’s first-time effort was saved by Andreotti with his feet.
In the 40th minute, Verona were awarded a penalty. Cavazza made a fine run down the left and entered the box near the byline, where he was brought down from behind by Amorese as he prepared to shoot. Zanin stepped up to take the spot-kick, but his powerful right-footed effort struck the underside of the crossbar before bouncing on the goal line and away from goal.
The first half ended goalless, with no added time played.
The pattern remained unchanged after the break, with Verona continuing to push down the flanks, helped by the introductions of Casagrande and Bisoffi. In the 68th minute, the Gialloblù No. 19 won possession in the attacking third, advanced to the edge of the box and aimed for the far corner with his right foot. A crucial deflection from the visitors’ defence sent the ball behind for a corner.
Three minutes later, Hellas came close to taking the lead. Jatta once again broke free down the left and crossed for Gardin, who failed to make clean contact with his right foot from the centre of the box, sending the ball well wide of Andreotti’s goal.
Verona continued to press for a decisive goal in the closing stages. In the 85th minute, Casagrande came close to finding the top corner with an effort from the edge of the box after beating two opponents. Three minutes later, Mussola tested Andreotti: the No. 7 received the ball from Bisoffi near the right corner of the penalty area and shot first time, but the goalkeeper did well to punch the ball clear.
After five minutes of added time, the match ended 0-0. The tie would therefore be decided by a penalty shoot-out, with the winners set to face either Avellino or AlbinoLeffe in the Round of 16 of the Primavera Coppa Italia.
Pro Vercelli took an immediate lead through Badan, while Peci saw his penalty saved for Verona. Possagno and Perardi both scored for the visitors, with Casagrande pulling one back for Hellas. However, Bisoffi’s effort was saved by Andreotti, before Amendolagine converted the decisive penalty to secure Pro Vercelli’s 4-1 shoot-out victory and their place in the next round.
Verona’s next fixture is on Sunday 1 November at 1PM, when the Gialloblù face Genoa at the ‘La Sciorba’ stadium in Matchday 9 of the 2026/27 Primavera 1 season.
